In learning a foreign language, it is very important to follow the language rules which present typically in the three main factors as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. And the very entrance must be the pronunciation which plays the role of the language learning foundation. With the sound source, we can obtain the support for our memory. Then we may step into the procedure of learning vocabularies which are used as materials in establishing the language building. Finally with the strong pronunciation foundation and enough language materials, we should study the regulations for the language building — grammar, we can then reach our learning objectives. The emphases of these lessons is to lead the students to start from the very first step of learning Chinese language — its pronunciation, Pinyin (modern Chinese pronunciation system).
These lessons are compiled for all Chinese language learning beginners who have been lack of systemic training of Pinyin. The whole course contains 10 lessons with 20 units . Each lesson needs 2 teaching units. The previous eight lessons are stressed in the learning of Pinyin, including: concepts of initials, finals, their combinations and practices of the four basic tones. The whole procedure indicates all necessary steps in the training of Pinyin.
By recognizing all initials and finals in the table, practicing their combinations and the four tones, experiencing some colloquial conversations and tasting beautiful rhythms of some famous Chinese Tang Dynasty poems, students should have a clear outline of Chinese pronunciation which should be the very first step or foundation in learning the language.
In the last two lessons, we have a brief introduction of some basic knowledge of Chinese characters and hints of different expressions by comparing English and Chinese. As vocabularies and grammar are not really required to master in such a basic beginning course, these introductions properly refer the students to a perspective of the further study of vocabularies and grammar.
