Ever try to read something in Chinese and spend what seems like hours getting through a page?
A new website, TheChineseReader.com, has recently been launched to help non-fluent readers of Chinese with just this problem. It streamlines the hassles of reading or learning to read this beautiful language.
What is it?
It is a Chinese reading aid, which will pinyin annotate any chinese text you paste in an intuitive layout (pinyin placed right below each character, like chinese childrens books) and incorporates a powerful dictionary, multi-character word finder, and vocabulary list builder. There's even cantonese support too! And we may be adding shanghainese soon. The site has gotten a good response from the initial release, and after many bug fixes, is now ready for general use.
Best of all, it's COMPLETELY FREE TO USE!
How's this different from other annotators?
In short, the other tools feel more apt for getting the bare-bones info you need quick to get through a block of text once. TheChineseReader can help you with this too, but truly excels at digging deeper into the language when you are trying to study a block of text and helping you draw out all of the linguistic lessons it has to offer. (Read at the end for more on this....)
