中秋节 Zhōng Qiū Jié ( Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival )

As one of the four biggest traditional festivals ( Spring, Qingming , Dragon Boat and Moon Festival ) , Mid-Autumn Festival is a very important tradition in the Chinese cultures, which has lasted for thousands of years.
In the ancient time , Chinese empires established regulations in offering sacrifices to the sun in spring and to the moon in autumn and it had lasted until one thousand years ago in Tang Dynasty the date August 15th of the Chinese lunar calendar ( about the late September of the Gregorian calendar ), which is right in the middle of the autumn with a full moon , was constituted as a traditional festival . During the time, weathers in most parts of China are cooler and nicer ; crops can be harvested and family members are reunited home . Right under the clear and bright moon, families are getting together , enjoying all kinds of excellent food and fruits ,among which moon cakes are the typical festival ones . From 2008, Mid-autumn Festival has become one of the official public holidays in China, too.
